The question is “what MOT class is my vehicle?” Although the usual MOT most cars, vans and motorhomes require is class 4 there are lots of options. Class 1 MOT
Class 1 MOTS cover smaller engine mopeds and motorcycle vehicles with engines up to 200cc.
Class 2 MOT
Class 2 MOT checks are for the more powerful road bikes and motorcycles with engines over 200cc.
Class 3 MOT
Class 3 MOTs are for your “Only Fools and Horses” style 3-wheel vehicles, as well as any other 3 wheeler motors.
Class 4 MOT
Class 4 MOT checks are what we do, here at Cross Lane Garage. It’s your standard MOT for most cars or motor vehicles that have up to 8 passenger seats. This also includes taxis & private hire cars, ambulances, motorhomes, campervans, most vans & smaller commercial vehicles that weight up to 3,000KG.
Class 4a MOT
Class 4a MOTs are for slighter larger minibuses or passenger vehicles with 9 – 12 seats and it includes a seat belt installation check.
Class 5 MOT
Class 5 MOT checks are for private passenger vehicles, coaches or ambulances with 13 or more seats. Although, this check doesn’t cover the seat belt safety.
Class 5a MOT
The class 5 MOT checks is for 13 or more seat passenger vehicles, coaches or minibuses and it includes the seat belt installation safety checks.
Class 6 MOT
Got you! This one’s a Wild Card, as there isn’t a Class 6 MOT check.
Class 7 MOT
The class 7 MOT is for bigger goods vehicles weighing from 3,000 – 3,500 KG and it includes larger Transit vans, lorries, high-tops and trucks.
In summary, if you have a car or motor vehicle with up to 8 seats, you need a Class 4 MOT. Class 1 is for motorscooters, class 2 is for motorcycles, and Class 3 is for 3-wheelers!
