Cross Lane Garage is a family run, independent garage in Wakefield. Set up by the late Ian Dudley in 1976, this is now owned and run by his nephew Dale Stenson.
Ian was passionately involved in the local community and motorcycle racing. He even sponsored local up and coming motorcycle racing riders. Now with Dale at the reins Cross Lane Garage continues to be a locally renowned MOT garage, with the people of Wakefield’s at its heart.
Our excellent reputation for low prices and reliable garage services is recognised by not just the people of Wakefield but also many of the main car dealerships. We are proud to be the preferred MOT Testing Station for many well known car dealerships across Wakefield and the surrounding areas. This speaks volumes as to how good we are as even the industry experts use us and recognise it!

Cross Lane Garage’s main man! A locally born and bred family man who has been a mechanic in the trade since 1997. Dale is our AE authorised examiner. He is our top MOT tester but also experienced in servicing, diagnostics and car repairs. He’s always ready to help with honest, straight forward advice.
Nick
Meet Nick
Nick’s our in-car technology and MOT expert. He joined Cross Lane Garage in 2006 and has been an MOT testing machine ever since. Nick’s also got a fine eye for detail so never misses a thing during his MOT checks. And, if your car fails first time around he will manage the process to get it MOT ready for it’s free MOT retest.

I have to give a negative rating, I was there twice with a non-working air conditioning, the repair was short-lived, after a month the air conditioning stopped working again.

I got recommended this garage by a friend after I needed a new clutch and everyone I rang either didn’t call me back, quoted an extortion price or couldn’t fit me in for 2 weeks. Cross Lane Garage were fairly priced, fitted me in quick and were very friendly. Couldn’t recommend them enough, very happy with the service! Thanks Dale & team!

Always easy to book my car in for a service, MOT or repair. Quick and friendly service and always a fair price. Never had any problems with the work they have carried out! I recommend them to my family and friends when they need work doing on their cars.

Recently had our timing belt, water pump and MOT done at Cross Lane garage, couldn’t ask for better service from a garage all round. They fitted great parts, brilliant knowledge from Dale, all at a great price too. Definitely recommend, will be back in future

Brought my car here for water pump and thermostat housing replacement and new pads and discs fitted, I’ve gotta say the team here and Dale I think his name was was absolutely fantastic, 100% knowledgable and just a down right good lad, so would definitely recommend this garage, also saved me a fortune thanks again guys very much appreciated in this day and age.

Had a disaster of a weekend with a a flat battery, a busted rear spring and a head light out.

Called in with my father in-laws Toyota that had a knocking noise. They found 2 broken springs! Managed to do it the same day. Couldn’t be happier with the price or the service. Very friendly & professional. Will definitely use them again 👍

I was personally disappointed with their overall tactics . Brought my car for a few problems . The main one an oil league and misfire . Polo 02
So the break down was no quote .
Left the car to them a few days I rang in a few times to see what was needed . No progress
Next thing I knew I needed a new battery it was going flat . Did not buy into that really it was be low charge but new already but would start up and no massive issue apart from winter . Cold weather .
Then the 02 sensor was screwed granted it was orange light and possible it was faulty .

Called to book MOT expecting an appointment in the next week or so. Instead I was able to take my car in 3 days later. Dropped it off at 11am, expecting it to be ready that evening. Instead I picked it up a couple of hours later. Could have collected it sooner but was out with the dog.
Nothing extra to pay. Passed no problems. Service great as always. Highly recommended. Will use again

Absolutely great garage, just moved to Wakefield and didn't know where to go. Went here because of the reviews and definitely happy. They're very welcoming, kept me informed and explained everything. The price was very reasonable and they also gave me back my car looking shinier and cleaner than its ever been!

Have always been to this garage ever since I passed my test the staff are very helpful and polite and dont try to overcharge you like other places in the local area. Have recommended this garage to everyone I know and will continue to do so as the service here is faultless

One of the best priced garages around Wakefield .... There staff are polite and well-mannered and always willing to go the extra mile to help you out.....been a female driver I often worry if garages are taking advantage of the fact I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to my car BUT I did not feel this way at cross lane garage explain everything and made it easy to understand which left me feeling at easeand full of confidence to go there again thank you for your help your staff are brilliant

Great service by the guys over at Cross Lane Garage! Booked my van in for MOT, they came and collected it from my house, completed the test and then returned the vehicle, all within a couple of hours.
Not only was the service very impressive, but the price charged was super reasonable too!

Great service. My old Corsa developed an oil leak, they fixed it quickly and in my opinion price was very reasonable. They have another satisfied customer and I'll happily return for any future work.

Dale and the team saved us after a breakdown, can’t thank them enough! My engine stopped and my car wouldn’t start, leaving me and my 2 toddlers to roast in a a stationery call. One call into Cross lane and they sent one of their guys out, realised it was the battery and jumped the it back into life. They then escorted us back to the garage for a free battery health check. As it turns out it was totally my mistake, leaving my ignition running while parked too long. The guys were so honest about the battery charge, telling us it was still safe but made need checking again in 6-12 months. Better still, they were totally understanding of my silly mistake. They didn’t even charge me!!
A true team of car-genius professionals who really go above and beyond. Put me and my kids at ease and had us back in the road in next to no time!

Popped in with my motorhome before our big trip. Absolutely blown away, they checked it over for free there and then and really put my mind at rest. Topped up my tyre pressure and were super quick and helpful. I've booked it to go back for its MOT once we've done the big trip (plus it will then need some new tyres!). Thanks Dale and the team :)

Absolutely Brilliant lads. On route to work at South Elmsall from Huddersfield and my car was making a funny noise. Googled this place and drove there. Lads had a look at my car and told me if was safe to carry on my journey. They put me at ease as was very wary about carrying on.
Shame I live in Huddersfield as I would definitely use this garage.

Amazing! Brought my Qashqai here for its first service (as they do manufacturer service so was valid with my new car warranty). Far cheaper than Nissan and fab service. I just popped across to McD’s with my laptop and the car was ready within 2 hours. Also the clean was amazing - don’t think my wheels have sparkled like that since I bought it! Faultless service and genuinely lovely blokes.

Had car in today for belt change needed tensioner replacing as well. They showed me broken part and explained what had happened great service. They also went out of there way to get it sorted for me so I could still take family away on holiday in time 😁

Terrible .. had a mot last year said it needed welding etc . Bloke said £500 to have your car for another year .. what a con said exactly the said this year .. took it to another garage said it was OK and no welding done last year .. rip off

Had an mot failure neither me nor quick fit could sort, there guys sorted it quickly and passed its MOT and the price was very reasonable.
